New to Zoom?

Want to improve your sound quality?

We would like to offer one or more pre-recorded, 1-hour inquiries for you to do on your own between the last session of a day and the first of the following day. These inquiries will allow you to experience Soul Motion away from your screen, possibly outside in nature (depending on the weather), possibly in the presence of others. These session will be hosted on an external server only available to Foundations participants and only during our time together. We will check in with registered students in the November timeframe to see if this is of interest and proceed accordingly.

Foundations Booklet / Guide -

We will be sending you a .pdf copy of the Foundations booklet that includes descriptions of each of the relational landscapes and movement platforms we'll be covering during Foundations. This booklet is designed to accompany your learning and also has space to capture your reflections and notes as you move through this journey. Because we are meeting online, you will need to print the booklet yourself at home or access it on your computer / device.

What to Expect (times listed in PST) -

Thursday 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Thursday morning is when we begin. Check-in will open at 8:45 am and you are invited to slowly welcome yourself to our time together. Initially you will find yourself in a Zoom Waiting Room.  You will be welcomed into our Zoom Room, one at a time, in the order in which you arrive. This will allow us to personally welcome you and give you a chance to make sure your technology & connection are working properly. You will then join our main Zoom Room where music will be playing to support you in landing in the space and awakening your body to the movement to come.

At approximately 9:30 am we will take the group through a Soul Motion Odyssey class. Holding the opening in this way, you will experience what a typical Odyssey class can be like.

Following the class, we will have a short time of group welcoming and orientation before breaking for about 1.5 hours. We may give you an optional “assignment” to explore during your break - both to enhance your experience of Soul Motion and to hold you in the container of our workshop.

Thursday 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

After our afternoon break, we will begin again and start our journey into the four Soul Motion relational landscapes with the Dance Intimate - the dance I do alone. Our Zoom room will open and music will begin 15 minutes before the session; please make sure you arrive in good time and are fully present for our session start at 12:30 pm.

Thursday Evening / Friday Morning

We would like to offer a 1-hour recorded inquiry for you to do on your own sometime before we begin on Friday - an inquiry that will allow you to experience Soul Motion away from your screen and possibly outside in nature (depending on the weather). We will check in with registered students in the November timeframe to see if this is of interest and proceed accordingly.

Friday, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Our Zoom Room will be open and music will begin 15 minutes before the session; please make sure you arrive in good time.  Starting promptly at 9:00 am, we will take the group through a 1-hr Soul Motion Mindful Movement class while simultaneously continuing our exploration of the Dance Intimate. We will also begin to discuss the three Soul Motion movement platforms - Pause Presence, Orbit Orientation, and Orbit Orientation.

We will break at approximately 11:00 am for about 1.5 hours. We invite you to take some of this time to take some notes in your Foundations booklet, including ways in which you have experienced the Dance Intimate in your every day - either during our time together or in your past.

Friday, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Our Zoom Room will be open and music will begin 15 minutes before the session; please make sure you arrive in good time. This afternoon we will begin our exploration of another of the Soul Motion relational landscapes, the Dance Community - the dance I do with all others. We will also continue our exploration of the movement platforms.

Friday Evening / Saturday Morning

We would like to offer another 1-hour recorded playlist for you to experience sometime before we begin on Saturday. You may invite others to join you as you move to the music or you may explore this inquiry alone. Again, we will check in with registered students in the November timeframe to see if this is of interest and proceed accordingly.

Saturday, 9:00 am - 11:00 am

Our Zoom Room will be open and music will begin 15 minutes before the session; please make sure you arrive in good time. This morning we are honored to have Vincent (Arjuna) Martínez-Grieco, Designer & Artistic Director of Soul Motion® join us to share the history of Soul Motion. This is a rare opportunity to learn about the origins of our practice “from the source.” Following a brief Q&A period, Vincent will lead us in a movement passage as we continue working with the Soul Motion relational landscapes and movement platforms. Our plan is to record this portion of our training to capture Vincent’s story to be able to share it at other Foundations trainings in the future. We will provide additional information regarding the recording as we get closer to our time together; we may ask participants to turn their cameras off during this portion to ensure we protect everyone’s privacy.

We will break at approximately 11:00 am for about 1.5 hours. We invite you to take some of this time to take some notes in your Foundations booklet, including ways in which you have experienced the Dance Community or any of the movement platforms in your every day - either during our time together or in your past.

Saturday, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Our Zoom Room will be open and music will begin 15 minutes before the session; please make sure you arrive in good time. This afternoon we will begin our exploration of another of the Soul Motion relational landscapes, the Dance Communion - the dance I do with one other, as well as continue to explore the movement platforms.

Saturday Evening / Sunday Morning

We would like to offer another 1-hour recorded inquiry for you to experience sometime before we begin on Sunday. This inquiry will focus on the dance with one other in the every day, away from the screen. Again, we will check in with registered students in the November timeframe to see if this is of interest and proceed accordingly.

Sunday Morning

We do not have a morning session today. We invite you to spend some time this morning practicing self-care. We also invite you to use some of this time to take notes in your Foundations booklet, including ways in which you have experienced any of the movement platforms or relational landscapes.

Sunday, 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm

Our Zoom Room will be open and music will begin 15 minutes before this, our final session. Please make sure you arrive in good time. This afternoon we will end our time together by exploring the final Soul Motion relational landscape, the Dance Infinite - the dance I do in the everyday, the dance I do in connection with all.

What to Bring -

  • Your computer or other device to join us on Zoom - a computer is preferred
  • Snacks to sustain you during the day and between meals; dancing requires energy!
  • Water to stay hydrated and fluid
  • A journal and a pen to capture notes and moments of inspiration
  • Your Foundations booklet (printed and folded in advance)
  • Layers of comfortable clothes that allow you to move freely and regulate your body temperature
  • A willingness to be moved, vulnerable, and surprised by the process
  • A sense of humor and curiosity
  • All of your experience, your wisdom, and your beginner's mind
  • Any and all questions that are bubbling within you
  • (Optional) An external speaker so that you can feel the music
  • (Optional) An object or altar in your space to help hold and ground you during our time together

Personal Care -

  • Plan to attend every session and to arrive early to each session so we can begin as a group, on time.
  • Let your family and colleagues know that you’re participating in a workshop and that you may not be as available as you’d usually be.
  • Be sure you have an area to dance where you have enough room to move, where you are safe, and where there is nothing on the floor you could trip over. To the extent that it is possible, please create a movement space for yourself away from distractions.
  • Listen to your body and respect your limits during the online activity and afterwards. We do not intend to take breaks during the 2-hour sessions and invite you to self-monitor and take a break when you need to.
  • While we request that everyone have their cameras on for all sessions, feel free to move off camera, feel free to dance between being seen & not seen, feel free to turn away from the camera / screen, feel free to move in ways that are supportive to you.
  • If you need to leave a session early, skip a session, or leave the workshop early, please communicate with Cindy or Winky; we will notice you’re missing and will want to know that you’re ok.
  • Our intention is to facilitate your learning of and going deeper into embodied contact with the Soul Motion relational landscapes and movement platforms as allies in your life in the “everyday dance.” While it is not our intention to bring uncomfortable emotions to the surface during Foundations, they may arise for you and we recommend that you engage your personal support system of friend(s) and/or family, should the need arise.
  • It is tempting, while doing a workshop from home via Zoom, to simultaneously attend to the needs of your family and/or work. We recommend that you limit this as much as possible. In addition to scheduling time for our sessions, we invite you to  plan some downtime downtime during the workshop to allow for self-care and integration. That could include a walk in the park, a hot bath, a massage, or anything you find nourishing.
  • Following the completion of our workshop, similarly, allow yourself some time for self-care before jumping back into the busy-ness of your life as possible. In this way you allow some space for the practices of Soul Motion to inform your every day dance.

Group Care -

  • The workshop sessions will start on time; please honor this for the benefit of all participants.
  • Please mute your microphone if you are not speaking and especially if there is background noise where you are (including a temporary disruption like somebody else comes into the room talking or you are about to cough or sneeze).
  • We request that you have your video on as much as possible. Some people find not being able to see the other participants off-putting and so we hope everyone will have their videos on all the time. At the same time, we realize some people may not be able to have their video on all the time (e.g., if they have a poor internet connection).
  • It can be fun to see where everyone is from during a online workshop; feel free to update your Zoom name to include your location.
  • Please close your other programs or applications on your computer/device and not to look at emails, messages, etc. during the session.
  • Please resist using the chat feature for private, off-topic comments and please limit private chats (i.e., chats between you and another participant) as these can be distracting.
  • Please, no photos or filming during the workshop - this includes taking screenshots during our Zoom sessions.
  • Please be mindful of your surroundings including who is around you and what is being shared online, especially if a participant is sharing something personal.
  • As a participant in this workshop, your name and email address will be provided to the Soul Motion School and you will receive occasional emails such as the quarterly Soul Motion Community Newsletter (Soul Motion® Moves), notification of workshops and classes being conducted by Soul Motion Teachers, and invitations to further your study of Soul Motion by enrolling in the Soul Motion Embodied Leadership training. If you object to your email being forwarded to the School, please let Cindy know. (You can opt out of receiving Soul Motion School emails at any time by contacting caitlin@soulmotion.com.)

Emergency Contact -

If you live alone or do not have anyone near who can care for you in the event of an emergency, please be sure to provide your emergency contact information before starting the workshop. You can let Cindy know anytime if this changes.

Cancellation Policy -

We regret that we cannot provide refunds in the event of attendee cancellation of enrollment.
